During this year, the BP (is that British Petroleum or Bad Planning) gulf oil spill has captured the headlines but there is still plenty of offshore oilfield activity that has continued unabated.  So here is my question.  Would you work on an Offshore Rig?

CAREER EXPERIENCE
NAVY MARINE ENGINEERING MECHANIC
Operated and maintained the ship’s main boilers and propulsion equipment.  Performed rounds to ensure the steam and mechanical systems were functioning correctly.
Achievements
•    Graduated top of the class in Marine Engineering School.
•    Served at sea during cold war and the Falklands war.
•    Member of the ship’s fire and damage control crew.
•    Qualified Marksman and Ship’s Diver.

CFR FIRE FIGHTER / FIRE CHIEF
Attending crash fire rescue emergencies, disaster planning and testing with simulated exercises, conducting fire prevention and safety programs, OH&S investigations, maintaining fire apparatus & equipment, ensuring compliance with standards, completing paperwork, budgeting and inventory, supervising and training up to 6 firefighters, periodically acting as Airport Manager.
Achievements
•    Compiled an in-depth training manual emulated by other departments.
•    Devised and implemented a faster system of recharging fire retardant.
•    Invited to coordinate other industry disaster exercise and assist with perfecting procedures.
PROCESS OPERATOR AND QUALITY CONTROL
Strand Board Plant,
Operating the log waferizing process in an efficient manner, doing maintenance and housekeeping, oversee the safety of green-end utility workers, conducting quality control and ensuring standards.
Achievements
•    As part of the plant start-up crew, instituted new procedures.
•    Wrote the emergency procedures manual and compiled into as a self-searching computer program.

SAFETY SUPERVISOR – STATION MANAGER
Safety Supervisor
Providing H2S safety supervision during gas production testing.  Supported medics and other safety personnel in the field from a sub-shop.

•    Steam Engineer (military).
•    High School by GED – Achieved subject scores up to 2nd year university levels.
•    Supervisor and management training.
•    Disaster Planning – Emergency Preparedness College.
•    Fire Fighter Levels I, II, III & IV.
•    St. John’s Ambulance First Aid – Instructor Rating.
•    WHMIS & TDG – Instructor Rating.
•    H2S, Ground Disturbance, HazMat Response, Confined Space Entry and Elevated Rescue.

•    Tree Falling – Chain-Saw, Feller-Buncher and Tree Shear (mounted on a bulldozer)
